Courtesy of Oakland County Times - The city of Southfield is holding a casting call for developer proposals for an 8.15-acre parcel of land known as the “EverCentre” property, located on the corner of Evergreen Road and Civic Center Drive in the heart of the Southfield City Centre district. Southfield hopes to transform the centrally situated site into a living/working mixed-use residential and commercial retail complex, thus revitalizing the area. The city of Southfield is accepting and considering bids for the project in an effort to unearth the most environment-friendly and cost-conscious plan for an urban space targeted to attract young professionals. Southfield's Planning Commission is seeking a concept that will reflect their vision for the site, and accelerate its use and development. All applications are due by Friday, October 26th at 11:30 am. Furthermore, the city feels the “EverCentre” would support the mission of the "Sustainable Southfield Master Plan." Mayor Kenson Siver, commented, "'The ‘EverCentre’ project represents an ideal opportunity for the right developer to create a world-class mixed-use development right in the heart of Southfield. This redevelopment project has the potential to be a dynamic draw that balances urban walkability with true functionality, in addition to serving as a model for other communities throughout the region." The aim is to transform Southfield into a walkable, urban community, with offices, residences, and retail being easily accessible. The hope is that this revitalization will attract not only more people to the city but also more businesses.
